Xiaomi has rolled out their most awaited update – MIUI 8 Global Stable ROM. The Beta version was already made available last month. Many of you may be afraid to install the update manually, but fear no more I will be sharing the best tips that will make flashing the MIUI 8 a piece of cake. So, guys I will be sharing two methods to install MIUI 8 – first I will tell you how to install MIUI 8 Recovery ROM and next will be the most important tutorial to install MIUI 8 fastboot ROM. So get ready and leave the fear behind and let’s get started.

If you have received the OTA update, that’s a good thing. But if you are still waiting then you may follow this tutorial to install MIUI 8 Global Stable in your Xiaomi device.

List of eligible devices-
Following are the devices that are eligible to be run on MIUI –

Redmi 1s/2/2 Prime
Redmi Note 3G/4G/Prime/2/3
Mi 2/2s3/4/4s/4i/5/Note/Max

If your device is one of them then you are good to go. Unfortunately, Mi has released the download links for MIUI 8 Global Stable ROM only for a few devices that include – Redmi 1S, Mi4i, Redmi Note 4G, Redmi Note 3G. So if your device is not one of them then you might have to wait for the OTA or you can still install the Beta version of MIUI 8 that is equally great.  I AM USING Xiaomi Mi4i to show you how to install MIUI 8 Recovery or fastboot ROM. So now let’s begin with the tutorial –

a) How to Install MIUI 8 Recovery ROM

Installing Recovery ROM on Xiaomi phones does not require the use of a PC/laptop. But to be honest, it takes a pretty much more time than installing fastboot ROM. At complete normal situation, you just need to install Recovery ROM for regular update. But if you need to wipe data or solve some bug then you should install the fastboot ROM.

Read before you begin

Installing Recovery ROM does not wipe any data but as per saying prevention is better than cure. You should backup all of your important data before you begin the flashing process.

Steps to install MIUI 8 Recovery ROM –

Step 1. If you are using Mi 2/Mi 2S,Redmi 1S, Mi4i, Redmi Note 4G orRedmi Note 3G – then you can download the stable version of MIUI 8 Recovery ROM from the above link. Else you have to wait to receive OTA or you have to download the beta version of MIUI 8 for your phone.

Step 2. Now place the downloaded ROM file (.zip format) in your phone’s root directory (internal storage) and rename it as update.zip

Step 3. Now open the Updater App, there you’ll see three vertical dots on the top right corner. Click on it and select Choose Update package. Now navigate to the location of update.zip ROM file and select it.

Step 4. The updater app will perform a quick check of the ROM file to prevent any possible problem. Now click on update now button.

Important Note – Be patient as the installation process will take around 15 minutes or maybe more. So better not to interrupt any process. If you want a fast installation process then you should install the fastboot ROM by following the below tutorial.

b) How to install MIUI 8 fastboot ROM

The first thing you need to do is unlock the bootloader of your Xiaomi device. Most of the devices don’t require this step as their bootloader is already unlocked. But you have to unlock it for new devices like Redmi Note 3, Mi Max, Mi Note Pro, Mi 5. Just follow this tutorial that I found to be the best and easiest to follow. Now after unlocking the bootloader of your device, just follow the below steps.

Steps Required –

Step 1. Download and install Mi Flash Tool on your PC/laptop.

Step 2. Download the MIUI 8 fastboot ROM from the above links. If your phone is not listed above then you have to wait to receive OTA or you have to download MIUI 8 fastboot beta ROM for your device.

Step 3. Extract the downloaded ROM file using 7 Zip only. Because you might have to extract the product again that you get after extracting the downloaded fastboot ROM file.

Step 4. Now boot your phone into fastboot mode by keep pressing volume down button and power button simultaneously for a few seconds.

Step 5. Open Mi Flash Tool and hit Refresh, you’ll see your device will show on the MiFlash tool.

Step 6. Now click on Browse and navigate to the extracted files of the ROM and select images folder.

Step 7. Click on the arrow to see more options apart from browse to navigate to the files. Click on Advanced… and under the Fastboot script option, navigate to the extracted files of the MIUI 8 ROM and select flash_all_except_data_storage if you don’t want to wipe user data and files or you can select flash_all to wipe all user data.

Step 8. Hit flash, the ROM will start flashing on your phone and it will hardly take 3-4 minutes as you can see it from the screenshot… Now your phone will reboot and it will take 2-3 minutes more to boot into the system.
